My husband, Craig owns and leads a 20 piece jazz big band called, “Heber Springs Jazz”. He created this band two years ago. He has musicians from all over this area. Some people that play in his band travel nearly two hours to get here every week for rehersal!
Craig’s band has been quite successful. It has played all over the state and continues to have a long list of scheduled performanes lined out.
Craig is a very accomplished jazz trombone player. He played in the McDonald’s All American band when he was in High School. That is a most prestigious band to play in as they only pick 2 H.S. seniors from every state in America.
If you asked him who is the greatest influence in his music, he’d say, ”Carl Fontana”. Mr. Fontana’s style and technique were always decades ahead of his time and has influenced not only My Husband, but men such as Andy Martin, Frank Rossolino, and others.
I am so proud of Craig’s band. I’m amazed he was able to find such good jazz players here in the Ozarks. Jazz doesn’t naturally come to mind when you think of the Ozark Mountain area, or should I say, didn’t use to come to mind, but that is all changing now
